What’s The truth about Chiropractors

  • Chiropractors and medical doctors have different amounts of schooling
  • Medical doctors don’t like chiropractors
  • Once you start going to a chiropractor, you need to go for the rest of your life
  • Chiropractic care hurts
  • Chiropractors are only good for neck or back pain
  • I am too young or too old for chiropractic care
  • No scientific proof that it works
  • I can adjust myself

Chiropractors and medical doctors do have different educations.

Medical doctors have more chemistry and pathology courses, because of their ability to diagnose and prescribe medications.   Chiropractors have more anatomy, x-ray, neurology and adjusting courses, because of our ability to analyze and adjust the spine

Medical doctors don’t like chiropractors

This used to be a fact.   The American Medical Association tried to destroy the profession of chiropractic.   The Supreme Court of our nation had to make a decision, and it sided with chiropractic.   The tides have been turning lately, as more and more medical doctors are starting to embrace some of the principles that the chiropractic profession has been saying for over 100 years.

Once you start going to a chiropractor, you need to go for the rest of your life

This is a very common myth, and it stops many people from seeing a chiropractor.   The truth is that many people choose to keep coming back for chiropractic care because of the results that they are getting.   These people realize that they are in charge and can stop care at any time, but once their “typical” seasonal allergies go away, those “normal” morning aches and pains recede, or their energy and focus increases, these people do not want to go back to the way that they were before!   Just like going to the gym, eating healthy foods, and going to the dentist, chiropractic is a healthy habit that can be enjoyed for just a short time or over the course of an entire lifetime.

Chiropractic care hurts

While there may be moments of uncomfortable pressure, overall, chiropractic care should not hurt

Chiropractors are only good for neck or back pain This is a myth, but this is the way that most chiropractors advertise.   This has led to confusion among the general public. To give you an insider’s view, there are two large schools of thought in chiropractic.   The first viewpoint is to get people out of pain, and then dismiss them.   As you would expect, these practices need a high volume of new clients, and do the majority of the advertising. The other school of thought is to get people functioning at their highest level, strengthen their spine, and then maintain this level of health for as long as the client wishes.

I am too young or too old for chiropractic care

There is no such thing as someone who is too young or too old for chiropractic care.   Of course our methods are different when we are taking care of a newborn or a 115 year old lady with severe osteoporosis than we would be with a college football player.   We conform our care to each individual that comes through our doors, and the care is different each time you come in, depending on what you need.   We prefer to start care as early as possible, because children have the most to gain from chiropractic care.

No scientific proof that it works

Over the years, there have been hundreds of studies proving its validity in improving the health of millions of people all over the world.   Studies in the past five years have shown the positive benefits on increasing immune function, general wellbeing in the elderly and increased brain function.   The science is there, all one has to do is take a look.

I can adjust myself

You may be able to move some of your neck/backbones around and hear a popping sound, but that is not an adjustment, it is a manipulation.   What is the difference?   An adjustment is a force put into the body by a chiropractor with the goal of moving one specific bone back into position, removing a vertebral subluxation, allowing the body to work properly.   Only chiropractors are trained to adjust.   Manipulations, on the other hand, are non-specific forces put into an area of the body in order to get something to move.   They are not precise, and rarely move the correct bone to where it needs to go.   Even chiropractors, who have been trained in finding and removing subluxations cannot reach around and get a good idea of what is going on with their own back.   That is why chiropractors cannot adjust themselves.   Chiropractors rely on one another to stay free from vertebral subluxations.
